Anglers who cast plugs for bass and other gamefish in fresh and salt water know that their lure's motion, or action, is critical to their success. Plugs and lures with rigid bodies and metal or plastic lips are popular among spin fishermen because such lures dive when retrieved and have a side-to-side wobble as they swim.
Until recently fly fishermen did not have flies that would dive and wobble from side to side. "Action" in a fly meant movement of hair or feathers. Marabou fibers, saddle hackles, and rabbit-fur strips have been the most popular materials used...
