I was sitting over an alfalfa field with my son, Charlie, as daylight faded into that magical last hour before dark. A few deer stepped out of the woods and began working their way toward the field.
"Can you see them?" Charlie asked.
I couldn't. Not at first. It wasn't until they stepped into the bright green alfalfa that I could finally pick them out. That moment confirmed something I had suspected for a while: My eyes weren't what they used to be.
