Guns & Ammo TV: Kimber EVO SP

Concealed carry is on the rise, and the demand for variety has never been greater. Competitive shooter Jim Tarr joins Guns & Ammo Editor Eric Poole in this segment of “At The Range” to review the Kimber EVO SP, which is currently available in four unique models to meet Kimber’s market demands.

All four EVO pistols are chambered for 9mm and use seven-plus-one-round magazines, and Tarr and Poole agree these possess the shootability of a full-size pistol. Slide serrations provide a solid, secure grip for charging the pistol, and the sights ensure reliable accuracy.

The suffix “SP” stands for “Striker Pistol,” and that's the big difference here. The EVO SPs may look like diminutive 1911s akin to Kimber's Micro 9 series, but they swap out the hammer for a striker-fired action. If you’re looking for a concealed-carry pistol with familiar 1911 ergonomics, the Kimber EVO SP offers a range of noteworthy configurations.
