Stars peppered the pre-dawn sky as I donned my turkey vest and slung my shotgun over my shoulder. It was May 6, partly cloudy, a little breezy, and I had a half-mile walk to reach the power line where I intended to hunt. While I hadn’t seen much turkey sign during a few scouting forays, I wasn’t too concerned.
