Destin DeMarion knows his way around the big waters of Lake Erie and spends a lot of time searching for big smallmouth bass. Beginning when the ice goes out and up until prespawn time, smallmouth bass are aggressive, can be caught both by power fishing or finesse fishing and are just plain big. Great lakes smallmouth bass are prevalent in the 3- to 5-pound range and DeMarion frequently catches them up to 7 pounds under the right conditions.
