Fad /fad/ noun: An intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived and without basis in the object’s qualities; a craze.
I’m not sure if the modern increased desire for caliber conversions/multi-caliber capable firearms qualifies for the level of “fad”, but they sure seem to be pretty darn popular with American gun owners.
